inspiration day at the farmers’ market 🌿🍓🌺🧡

The day started with yard work and a smoothie….if you look close you can see it’s a Canadian mason jar! Oopsies Mom! Guess this is yours 🙂

Our favorite smoothie right now is banana blueberry. A banana and a half, a cup of frozen blueberries, and a cup of water is perfect for skye and me. Plus we sprinkle chia seeds on the top.

This smoothie tastes like candy! It’s so sweet, and I really need to lay off all the sweets (as you’ll see as we move down the post!)

Then it was time for our little trip to the farmers’ market. Our purpose was 3 fold:

1] gain inspiration from the sights: bright flowers, muted cacti, colorful fruit and veggies, and who knows what else…to spur on some creative ideas

2] gain inspiration from the tastes and smells: fresh bread, various samples, herbs, more samples….😂

3] come home with in season treats to bake with and eat

Here was our first sample! The nasturtiums are edible! Every part of the plant! The flower and leaves don’t have much taste, but the stem tastes strong and spicy, similar to a radish.

The flowers!!! Aaaagh!!! Gorgeous!

Sorry there’s an overload of Skye pictures, but she was a fun sidekick and model 🙂

Lots of inspiration here…the variety and color was stunning!

Moving on to the succulents and cacti…

Amazing…God is the Master Artist!!

these leaves are beautiful.

The tomatoes were delicious…I won’t tell you how many sample bites Skye ate! 😝

We bought some tomatoes and cucumbers

don’t want to leave out the money plant 🙂

🙂

The cherry limeade was photogenic….

At any angle…

Ok enough of the limeade – but seriously! My favorite colors 🙂

:::::::::::::::

So we went home buzzing about what we would create….oh wait!! Speaking of buzzing!!! I forgot one last treat:

Bee sting cake!!! It was sooo good!!! Cake covered in honey and almonds with pastry cream inside 🙂

Anyway…as I was saying….

We went home and got to work. Skye decided to make:

Strawberry cake…

and I made…

Raspberry pavlova (with edible nasturtiums). We decided to let the boys judge our desserts and tell us which was the best….but then they all found out who was making what and it wasn’t a secret anymore …we wanted them to judge without knowing who made what!! But I had an unfair advantage in that my boys LOVE anything with a meringue-like taste. So they picked the pavlova..BUT–Skye’s cake was delicious.

We’ve been eating on them all weekend

We also made this cactus pincushion. We had made plans to paint pictures of the flowers and cacti as well, but ran out of time.

All in all it was an A+ home ec and art day here at the Franklin School of Arts and Academics 🙂 (our homeschool name). I’m so thankful we could go. You know how it gets with teenagers- they want to be with their friends more and more, so we scheduled it out a week in advance and I plan on many more inspiration days! ❤️💛🧡🌿🌺

I want to hang out with you and Skye! It looked like such fun. Becca and I are like that when we shop for flowers and garden plants. We get such inspiration. Kelly and Justin moved into their new house this weekend. They are looking forward to gardening and decorating their new house.
